A Mountain of Japanese Animation Updates Dropped During the Festive Season
The Yuletide season provide a plethora of activities far superior than scanning the headlines: discovering surprises, getting stuffed on delicious food, and employing meditation skills to refrain from yelling at loved ones. I hope you succeeded in accomplish all these things and more. However, the world of entertainment never sleeps, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. A slew of thrilling news items emerged during the break, and should you didn't see some of them, here is a compilation of the most exciting bits.
One-Punch Man Its Third Season Will Continue (Come 2027)
Perhaps the most shocking revelation, the much-discussed disaster that was season 3 of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to halt more episodes. Season 3 will come back with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—so far away they easily could have dubbed it season 4. Adding to the surprise, animation studio J.C. Staff will still be in charge. At least this time, director Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the beginning, which could be taken as a hopeful indicator. But, the main art for the continuation is identical to the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This leads one to believe that, nowadays, they are probably mocking the fans.
The Ruri Dragon Series Will Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has established a reputation for being an prestigious animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the exceptional quality of its work but for the ethical practices of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had never worked on an anime adapted from a manga from Shonen Jump, perhaps the most iconic magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved massive popularity when it first appeared in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the mangaka's health issues. When it returned with a lighter schedule, the series proved it hadn't lost the fans' support and positive sentiment, and now everyone is thrilled about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.
Kingdom Season 6 Is Getting a Follow-Up In Production
Kingdom is the highly popular, epic Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only just received an English localization, but the anime has been going on for years, and its sixth season was a further outstanding entry. It turns out that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been announced as currently being made, and it will probably air in 2026.
Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia To Anime
A further studio known for the superior craftsmanship of its productions, Science Saru has delivered masterpieces of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the true story of Fatima, an influential woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and fascinating visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my must-watch list.
The Tougen Anki Series Is Set to Continue With a Second Season
Shortly after the conclusion of its twenty-fourth episode, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be receiving a follow-up. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki brings to life the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm air date has not been disclosed yet.
